Greetings from the Greater NY Chapter of USA Dance!

For those who may have been thinking about registering for the USISTD Congress: Please take note that the location has changed. It was originally scheduled to take place at Dance New York on February 23 and 24, but the latest news, according to the USISTD website, is that the Congress will now take place at the Arthur Murray Studio on 57th Street.

[img:usistd]In case you were wondering what the USISTD Congress is all about, it is a two-day event for both professional and amateur dancers with lectures and workshops on International and American style dances. The faculty includes many ballroom luminaries, including United States Professional Rhythm Champions José Decamps and Joanna Zacharewicz. Max Kozhevnikov, United States Professional Latin Champion, will also be giving lectures at the Congress. Other notable instructors are Beata Onefater, Victor Kanvesky, Glenn Weiss and Ed Simon. The instructors will also be available for coachings. It sounds like a great weekend to expand your ballroom knowledge, so if you would like more details (schedule, costs, topics), read this post.

In case you are wondering what the USISTD is, it is the United States branch of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance. It is the group that promulgated the accepted syllabus for International and American style dances used in most of the competitions in the United States. Among its activities is the administration of medalist examinations which allow dancers to be certified in the Bronze, Silver and Gold syllabus. For more information about the USISTD, its activities and its history, visit the USISTD website.

John took some great shots of the Open Standard and Youth Latin couples from Saturday night and Erin took some terrific shot of the kids competing on Sunday. For the links to their photos, read this post.

Dancing through the week: You may want to take Sunday to rest up from this full week of dancing, but if you have not had enough, or wish to know what other options might be out there, consult Wayne's Dance Commentary or NJoyDancing News & Notes.
[img:v_day]A quick heads up for Valentine's Day: the NYU Ballroom Club and Team are hosting a Valentine's Day social on February 14, from 6 pm to 11 pm, at E&L Auditorium in the Kimmel Center on Washington Square Park South and LaGuardia Place. It's just $7 for non-NYU students (proper ID needed to enter the building), so mark your calendars and head downtown to NYU for some dancing on Valentine's Day.
That does it for this week. Get out and stay warm with some dancing, because Punxsutawney Phil says we have six more weeks of winter ahead of us . . . brrr!
