Greetings from the Greater NY Chapter of USA Dance!

[IMG:dance_boardroom]Do you work for a corporation? Do you know any co-workers who are interested in learning how to ballroom dance? If so, please put them in touch with us, because the Greater NY Chapter of USA Dance is launching an initiative to increase membership from among the the Greater NY area's corporate ranks. We know that some of you dancers are gainfully employed at some of these corporations, and we believe that within these companies, there might be many people who are interested in getting started in ballroom. To meet that need, we are developing a corporate membership tier locally within this chapter. If you are interested in exploring this new program, or know of people who would be, read this post and save the date for the Corporate Initiative Launch Party at Dance Times Square on Saturday, October 27, from 6 pm to 8 pm. We are enthusiastic about this initiative and this is your chance to get in on the ground floor. Hope you can join us!
Speaking of October 27, we will be having our (pre)Halloween social from 8 pm to 11:30 pm that evening, at Dance Times Square. Yes, we will have our annual costume contest, along with the usual antics that make our socials so much fun. We are particularly excited to be hosting our first social at Dance Times Square, and for those who may never have set foot in that studio, this is your chance to experience it, so we hope you will mark your calendars and make plans to join us that evening.
Reminder: Earlier in the day on October 27, we will be holding our Annual General Meeting and Elections, so if you plan to join us for that, mark it on your calendars as well -- it will be a big day of NY USA Dance events!
[IMG:newton_tango]Last week on DWTS: Viva, Mr. Las Vegas? I think not. Good-bye, Wayne Newton. I kind of thought that Wayne Newton would have had the fan base and had a chance of squeaking by for one more week, but I think another week of sub-20 scores has led to his ouster. I was expecting that maybe Mark Cuban would be the one to go last week, but he got decent marks and apparently managed to tease out the votes. Overall, I found the dancing last week to be generally lacking, as none of the celebs -- including Cheetah Girl Sabrina Bryan -- credibly pulled off either the jive or the tango. I found the jives to be a little short on energy, and the tangos to be stiff. Then again, it could also have been the fact that the Yankees were getting eliminated from the ALDS play-offs on the other tv screens, so my attention might have been diverted. In any event, let's hope that the quality of dancing improves this week. Perhaps you will join us at ACME to find out.
Salsa dancers: think your salsa is pretty hot? If so, maybe you'd like to test that proposition by entering the salsa contest at Club 56 on Tuesday night, Oct. 16, in Farmingdale, LI. The fun begins at 7:30 pm. There will be trophies, prizes and bragging rights for sure. Click here for details.

If you're free on Saturday night, try the Saturday Night Special at YSBD/Club 412 on Oct. 20, featuring a variety of ballroom dances, starting at 8 pm.

[IMG:DTS_logo]Reminder: Rock 'n Soul Showcase at the Kaye Playhouse Theater on Oct. 22, featuring performances by pros and students from Dance Times Square. After-party at the studio starting at 10:30 pm, free for USA Dance members (with membership card).

Other social dance suggestions can be found at NJoyDancing News & Notes and Wayne's Dance Commentary (which also points out that there is a sale on instructional dance videos on dancevision.com -- sales ends on Oct. 26, so act soon).
Do we have any leaders out there in the 15-17 age range for bronze/silver latin? If so, dianachka93 is looking for you. To read her partner search ad, click here.
That does it for this week. See you at ACME on Monday night.
