Back the MAC
Dec. 10, 2007 ed. ![]() Greetings from the Greater NY Chapter of USA Dance! Late last week I heard the sad news that Dance New York, long a staple of the New York ballroom scene, will be closing its doors in about three months' time. For anyone who has taken lessons there or attended the Saturday night dances at Dance New York, you know the studio to be a fantastic space, filled with great teachers and terrific dancers. And for those with memories dating back to the mid-90s, you will recall that the Manhattan Amateur Classic was held there in 1995 and 1996. Dance New York has long been a supporter of the MAC, and when it was held there, the studio coined a catch phrase: "The MAC is Back -- so Back the MAC." The time has come to return the favor, now that Dance New York will be departing its location at 54th and Broadway. The studio would like to hold a Pre-New Year's Eve Party on Saturday, December 29. If enough people are interested in attending and pre-pay in cash at either the December 16 Holiday Party at Dance New York or at Dance New York's December 22 Saturday Night Social, the Pre-New Year's Eve Party will go forward on Saturday, Dec. 29. The price will be $15 per person, and Dance New York is looking for at least 75 dancers interested in attending. For more information, read this post. If you have ever had a wonderful time dancing at Dance New York, you have only a few more chances this year to take to that dance floor, so we hope you will make every effort to do so.
And if you're wondering how you can "Back the MAC," you have several options:
![]() On-line registration for MAC 2008 continues to be open. For those who would prefer to fill out and mail in hard copy forms, they have just been posted on this link, for both MAC and Junior MAC. Forms sent by mail must be postmarked by December 29 to be deemed timely. Please register today so that you will meet the deadline. We would hate for you to be shut out from the Northeast Regional Qualifier due to procrastination! (Photo, r., © Igor Ofenbakh.) If you're looking to social dance, here are a few ideas:
